Kala Chana Masala ( Masala Chanagalu )



  1. Kala Chana ( Nalla Chanagalu, Yellow Gram )
  2. Tomatoes
  3. Onions
  4. Turmeric
  5. Ginger & Garlic Paste
  6. Curry Leaves
  7. Garam Masala
  8. Coriander Powder
  9. Chilli Powder
  10. Salt
  11. Oil


Step 1.


Wash 1 cup of chana & soak it for over night.

Step 2.

Heat 3 tbsp of oil in a pressure cooker, add 1 finely chopped onion, few curry leaves and fry them until they are transparent. Now add 1/4 tsp of turmeric, 1/2 tsp of G & G Paste and fry them for a while.

Step 3.

Then add soaked chana and mix them well, now add 1/2 cup tomatoes and give a quick stir.

Step 4.


This is the Time to add 1 tsp of chilli powder and salt according to taste and close the lid and pressure cook it for at least 3 whistles.

Step 5.

Once the pressure goes down add 1/2 tsp of Garam masala and 1/2 tsp of coriander powder and simmer it until thick gravy in consistency.

Step 6.



Its ready to serve now it goes well with chapathis  & some cucumber salad or else we can have it with some finely chopped onions as a side dish aslo.
